About

Hi, friends!

My name is Sydney! I’m a fire wife, mama, and home cook living on the sunny coast of South Carolina.

My husband describes me as a “crispy” mom, which is a play on the “crunchy” mom culture. I instantly loved and adopted this identity. I believe in finding a balance between making healthier choices while simultaneously embracing mainstream practices. So, I guess you could say that I’m not quite crunchy.

Crispy Carolina is the heart of my motherhood and wellness journey. It’s the place where I share how I serve my family whole, nutrient-dense foods, and incorporate lower-tox living into our daily routines, all while sticking to a budget. Life as a fire wife and mama to two active toddlers taught me that nutritious food is essential (and also that the laundry never ends).

Beyond the kitchen, I’m a professional historian and archivist. I deeply value preserving traditions, especially the recipes that carry special memories. My dream? To have my children return home years from now and request their favorite childhood dish, bringing them right back to the “good ole days” that we’re living now.

I hesitated to start Crispy Carolina. I struggle with perfectionism and the nagging question of whether or not I’m enough…whatever “enough” means. But Proverbs 16:24 reminds me: “Kind words are like honey—sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.” In Scripture, honey symbolizes spiritual nourishment, strength, and healing. Speaking kindly fosters peace and reduces stress. I’ve come to realize that my physical well-being is deeply connected to my spiritual health. I am so grateful for the Lord’s faithfulness in guiding us through this new season in South Carolina.

If the past few years have taught me anything, it’s that I’m not just a mom who loves to cook. The kitchen became a place where I rediscovered pieces of myself that got lost in the trenches of postpartum depression and early motherhood. Crispy Carolina is more than a food blog—it’s also my way of sharing what I’ve learned along the way.

I hope you try a recipe or two, or at the very least, resonate with the journey I’m on. Let’s eat!
